Loomis, CA Home Addition

This Loomis home needed more living space without losing what made it special — the character of a 1950s build in a mature, established neighborhood. Rather than start over, we worked with what was already there and built around it.

The project started by converting an underused outdoor living area into fully conditioned indoor space, giving the home a real kitchen, dining, and living room footprint instead of a cramped original layout. We remodeled all three spaces together as one open, connected area, added a new patio off the living room for the outdoor living the conversion took away, and built a new carport to handle parking the original home never accounted for. A full bathroom remodel rounded out the project.

Matching new to old was the hardest part of this build. The existing 1950s wood flooring wasn’t something we wanted to rip out and replace throughout — so we matched new flooring to the original boards closely enough that you can’t tell where 1950s ends and 2020s begins. The kitchen cabinetry is alder, chosen for the warmth and grain that fits a mid-century home without looking like a period reproduction. A gas fireplace anchors the new living room, and we wired the space for surround sound so it functions as well for daily life as it does for entertaining.

This is the kind of project we like best: not a teardown, not a cookie-cutter addition, but a home that still feels like itself — just with room to actually live in it.
